"I messed up," Baskett told People in an interview published Wednesday. "I put myself in a bad situation. And everything through me brought pain upon this family."
News broke in June 2014 about the 32-year-old former NFL star's alleged romp with Ava Sabrina London, a transgender model and YouTube star, who claims she met Baskett in April after "he contacted me through a video I had posted," she said in a tell-all interview with the National Enquirer.
"Hank absolutely knew that I was a transsexual and he told me that I was the only transsexual he's ever been with," London added about her alleged affair with Baskett while Wilkinson was eight months pregnant with their second child. "He thought I was beautiful."
While she said Baskett paid her $500 to get intimate for about 20 minutes, they never had sex.
Now, Baskett has come forward to tell his side of the story, which couldn't be more different from London's account.
According to Wilkinson's husband, he approached a couple in a grocery store parking lot who were smoking marijuana with interest in buying some. They provided him with a phone number and he was given an address upon calling.
"I saw something I thought I would never see in my life," Baskett said about being greeted at the door by a nude transgender woman making out with another transgender woman.
"I froze," he claimed, adding that the woman who answered the door approached him and began fondling him through his basketball shorts.
"I didn't engage in anything," he told People. "It was like a bank robbery. You never know when you'll freeze. I don't know if it was a couple of seconds or 15 seconds, because all I was saying was get out, get out, get out.
Last June, London also told the National Enquirer, "Hank never identified himself by his real name. But he used, I believe it was Steve, as his name."
Baskett insists London's story is false and that the humiliation he felt after their encounter, according to the way he rehashed the story, was enough for him to keep it a secret from friends and even his wife of five years and mother to their two kids — Hank IV, 3, and 13-month-old Alijah.
"I was this big former football player," he said. "I was the alpha male. I could do anything to protect my family but I couldn't protect myself."
A month after news broke, Wilkinson reportedly felt there was "no chance of reconciliation" with Baskett.
"I really don't know what to believe," she told People in September. "But this is real life. This is really what's happening. It's been the hardest four months of my life."
