Man Accused Of Raping Another Man; Locking Him In Sex Dungeon For Four Days

Wilbert Glover grabbed the victim off the street in Minneapolis and took him to his home, where he chained him to a bar of concrete in the basement, according to the complaint.

Police spokesman Steve Linders says squads were called to the home on the 1300 block of Marion around 8 p.m. Tuesday on reports of a kidnapping. When they arrived officers were met by two Good Samaritans who told them they answered a knock on the door and found a man who had one hand and both ankles in handcuffs. The handcuffs on the hand and ankles were attached with a chain.

The alleged victim, 19, told police a man in a nearby home had put the handcuffs on him Nov. 20, chained him to a wall and repeatedly sexually assaulted him over a four-day period.

The victim was crying when police arrived, had blood around his eyes, scab marks on his wrists from the handcuffs and scabbing around his neck. He told police he used a fire extinguisher to break a window to escape. He then said he crawled and rolled through yards, knocking on doors until someone answered.

"I opened the door and there's this kid just standing there. And he had all these chains and a fire extinguisher," said Tina Meudeking.

She and her husband Garrett were home when the teenager came to their door. They said the young man's first thought was to call his mom because he said his abductor threatened he'd go after his family because he had the victim's ID and knew his address.

He said he was walking on the street in north Minneapolis when an unknown man, later identified as Glover, came up behind him and began to strangle him. He said he tried to fight back but Glover overpowered him and he eventually passed out.

"He said he was attacked from behind and choked until he passed out, and woke up in the basement," said Meudeking.

When he woke up, he was in an unknown place, bound by metal restraints, according to the charges.

He said his kidnapper maced him and told him not to remove his blindfold. He told officers he was sexually assaulted for several days and could never see his attacker -- only hear him.

On Nov. 24, the man told police he had managed to slip one hand out of the handcuffs, free himself from the wall, used a fire extinguisher to break a window in the basement, then climbed out. He escaped while his captor left the home for a short time.

Police say the man had injuries consistent with being restrained. He was taken to Regions Hospital for treatment.

Officers arrested Glover at down the block on charges of kidnapping and rape.

"I think we both were kind of freaked out by it happening, not only in our hometown but so close to us," said Garrett Meudeking.

While being held in a holding cell at the Ramsey County Law Enforcement Center, Glover repeatedly banged his head against the door frame. He began to bleed, which resulted in blood splatter in the cell and a large pool of blood on the floor. Officers found Glover in the fetal position, on the floor, next to the pool of blood. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

While officers were searching Glover's home, they found a mattress on the basement floor and a pipe in the wall that had straps attached to it.

Glover is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Monday, Nov. 30. He is being held on $1 million bail.

Glover does have a conviction out of Illinois for kidnapping and attempted murder in 1987.
